Phantasm Sphere

If you haven't seen any of the Phantasm movies, Wikipedia explains these spheres well: The Tall Man (the main villain of all the films) utilizes flying metallic spheres (also known as Sentinels) that conceal within them many offensive weapons, including blades, drills, lasers and circular saws.

I saw Phantasm in my youth and it has always stuck with me over the years. A very eerie plot and probably the most menacing old-school villain in horror, The Tall Man.

This little project gave me an opportunity to work with Substance Painter and the Iray renderer. All of the modeling was done in Blender, textures in Substance Painter and rendering in Iray. The wireframe rendering was done with Blender Cycles. Compositing and post-processing done in Photoshop.

With the first image, I wanted it to look as though it was single shot from a movie. (realistic textures, motion blur, etc.) With the second image, I was going for a more illustrative look... something you'd see on a movie poster.
